Verse of the Day 3/16

Verse of the Day 3:16

Luke 1:73b-75(HCSB) He has given us the privilege, 74 since we have been rescued from our enemies' clutches,
to serve Him without fear 75 in holiness and righteousness in His presence all our days.

Over the last few days we've been dealing with being pulled in different directions and also how Jesus pulls harder.  Today's passage was in my read through the Bible plan.  It speaks of the birth and mission of John the Baptist who was to prepare the way for Jesus' coming.

The verses should serve as a reminder that Jesus rescues us, He pulls us from the enemies clutches, calls, keeps and saves us.  It also speaks of how we should live our lives in light of our salvation.

In a recent "Of First Importance" post I read the following quote from J I Packer, " Saves – does everything, first to last, that is involved in bringing man from death in sin to life in glory: plans, achieves and communicates redemption, calls and keeps, justifies, sanctifies, glorifies. Sinners — men as God finds them, guilty, vile, helpless, powerless, unable to life a finger to do God's will or better their spiritual lot."

When I read the word "rescued" I thought of the following song:

WONDERFUL, MERCIFUL SAVIOR

Words and music by Dawn Rodgers & Eric Wyse

Wonderful, merciful Savior,

Precious Redeemer, and Friend,

Who would have thought that a lamb could

Rescue the souls of men?

Oh, you rescue the souls of men.

Counselor, Comforter, Keeper,

Spirit we long to embrace;

You offer hope when our hearts have

Hopelessly lost the way,

Oh, we hopelessly lost the way.

Refrain:

        You are the One that we praise,

        You are the One we adore,

        You give the healing and grace

        Our hearts always hunger for;

        Oh, our hearts always hunger for.

Since He has rescued and saved us may we serve Him this day without fear as we are involved in preparing the way for when Jesus comes again.

In Christ,
Mike

Luke 1:68-75 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

 68 Praise the Lord, the God of Israel,
because He has visited
and provided redemption for His people.
69 He has raised up a horn of salvation for us
in the house of His servant David,
70 just as He spoke by the mouth
of His holy prophets in ancient times;
71 salvation from our enemies
and from the clutches of those who hate us.
72 He has dealt mercifully with our fathers
and remembered His holy covenant
73 the oath that He swore to our father Abraham.
He has given us the privilege,
74 since we have been rescued
from our enemies' clutches,
to serve Him without fear
75 in holiness and righteousness
in His presence all our days.
