Verse of the Day 3/27

Romans 8:38-39 (NIV)  For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Yesterday the image from 2 Corinthians 12:9 of Christ  our Messiah, pitching a tent over us during our trials and while we wait for deliverance stayed on my mind.  I later read today's verse with that in mind and the phrase that jumped out at me was "nor any powers".

There are many powers at work around us in the world.  Our own desires often may work against us.  Fears, anxiety and the feeling of hopelessness can have a power over us at times.  Satan definitely has powers and is allowed to throw his darts at us from time to time which may come to us in any number of scenarios including the thorn in the flesh that Paul spoke of yesterday.  The encouraging thing of these verses is the realization that it brings that Jesus Christ is above all those powers.  They may seem to be winning for a time, but in the end Christ overcomes, overpowers them all.

These thoughts led me to the Michael W. Smith Song - "Above All".

Above all powers above all kings
Above all nature and all created things
Above all wisdom and all the ways of man
You were here before the world began

Above all kingdoms above all thrones
Above all wonders the world has ever known
Above all wealth and treasures of the earth
There's no way to measure what You're worth

Crucified laid behind the stone
You lived to die rejected and alone
Like a Rose trampled on the ground
You took the fall and thought of me
Above all

No matter what we may face today, may we experience "His tent" over us, and take comfort and have hope in the fact that in all these things Jesus is above all and we are more than conquerors through Him.

In Christ,
Mike

Eph 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace  NIV

Romans 8:35-39 New International Version (NIV)

35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written:

   "For your sake we face death all day long;
we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered."

37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord
