Verse of the Day 10/30

Verse of the Day 10/30

2 Timothy 3:16-17
English Standard Version

16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

Bible Study Fellowship is going through the minor prophets of the Old Testament in it's "Exile and Return" study.  This follows last years study in Revelation.Both have a lot to do with prophecies with the Old Testament pointing to Christ's birth, life and death but also dealing with the end times. Today's verses point to the fact that "all scripture" is breathed out, inspired by God. We probably don't do enough study in the Old Testament, but it is "profitable" for the same qualities mentioned abover.

We don't often like to be corrected, but it is a necessary part of training and being equipped.  Any football coach will tell you that.  They go back and train so that they get it right on gameday.

John MacArthur writes, "The word translated "correction" in 2 Timothy 3:16 speaks of the strengthening work of God's Word. Scripture not only exposes your sin, but it also strengthens you and restores you to a proper spiritual posture. It convicts you and then gives you instruction to build you up again. "

The correction can also be a "course correctiion", changing the direction of our lives, from the broad way to the narrow way. May we allow God's Word and His work in us to be complete, thoroughly equipped for what He has for us to do today.

Blessings,
Mike

2 Timothy 3:10-17
English Standard Version

All Scripture Is Breathed Out by God

10 You, however, have followed my teaching, my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love, my steadfastness, 11 my persecutions and sufferings that happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra—which persecutions I endured; yet from them all the Lord rescued me. 12 Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, 13 while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom[a] you learned it 15 and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God[b] may be complete, equipped for every good work.

Verse of the Day 10/15

Verse of the Day 10/15

1 Thessalonians 2:13 Holman Christian Standard Bible

13 This is why we constantly thank God, because when you received the message about God that you heard from us, you welcomed it not as a human message, but as it truly is, the message of God, which also works effectively in you believers.

Today's verse came up in my read through the New Testament plan.  In it Paul is writing about how the message of God "works effectively" in us as believers. How long has it been since you considered how effectively God is working in your life.  He works in us through His Word and the Holy Spirit in our lives.

John MacArthur writes:

Which also effectively works in you who believe." The work of God's Word includes:

saving (Rom. 10:17; 1 Pet. 1:23);
teaching and training (2 Tim. 3:16, 17);
guiding (Ps. 119:105);
counseling (Ps. 119:24);
reviving (Ps. 119:154);
restoring (Ps. 19:7);
warning and rewarding (Ps. 19:11);
nourishing (1 Pet. 2:2);
judging (Heb. 4:12);
sanctifying (John 17:17);
freeing (John 8:31, 32);
enriching (Col. 3:16);
protecting (Ps. 119:11);
strengthening (Ps. 119:28);
making wise (Ps. 119:17–100);
rejoicing the heart (Ps. 19:8);
and prospering (Josh. 1:8, 9).

1 May the mind of Christ, my Savior,
live in me from day to day,
by His love and pow'r controlling
all I do and say.

2 May the word of God dwell richly
in my heart from hour to hour,
so that all may see I triumph
only through His pow'r.

3 May the peace of God my Father
rule my life in everything,
that I may be calm to comfort
sick and sorrowing.

4 May the love of Jesus fill me
as the waters fill the sea;
Him exalting, self abasing:
this is victory.

5 May I run the race before me,
strong and brave to face the foe,
looking only unto Jesus
as I onward go.

Blessings,
Mike

Reception and Opposition to the Message

13 This is why we constantly thank God, because when you received the message about God that you heard from us, you welcomed it not as a human message, but as it truly is, the message of God, which also works effectively in you believers. 14 For you, brothers, became imitators of God's churches in Christ Jesus that are in Judea, since you have also suffered the same things from people of your own country, just as they did from the Jews 15 who killed both the Lord Jesus and the prophets and persecuted us; they displease God and are hostile to everyone, 16 hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved. As a result, they are always completing the number of their sins, and wrath has overtaken them at last.

Verse of the Day 10/2

Verse of the Day 10/2

Ephesians 3:16-18
Holman Christian Standard Bible

16 I pray that He may grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power in the inner man through His Spirit, 17 and that the Messiah may dwell in your hearts through faith. I pray that you, being rooted and firmly established in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the length and width, height and depth of God's love,

My read through the New Testament plan has brought me to the book of Ephesians.  Today's verses are part of a prayer that Paul gives to the church at Ephesus and because it is included in the Bible it is for ma and it is for you.  I don't know what you may be facing today but I pray this for you.  That you may be strengthened with power in your inner self by the Holy Spirit and that Jesus would dwell in your hearts, strengthen your faith and that you would realize the depth of His love for you.

Do you often stop to thing of the length, width, height and depth of God's love? Do so today. Know that God loves you, He is with you. He is for you and He will strengthen you according to His will.

Incomparable kindness to less than the least.            Wes King - The Love of Christ
To the broken, the battered, and weak
To all who are hungry there comes a call
To be filled with the fullness of God
It's beyond all you can see
Farther than you'd believe
It's a mystery
My prayer for you is that you would know

CHORUS:
How wide, and how long, and how high, how deep is the love
How deep is the love of Christ

The width of two arms outstretched on a tree
The length of the road to Calvary
The height of the crown on a cruel cross
The depth of the pain is the cost
All for you, all for me
All for love did He bleed
All to set us free
My prayer for you is that you woul know

Mike

Prayer for Spiritual Power

14 For this reason I kneel before the Father[a] 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named. 16 I pray that He may grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power in the inner man through His Spirit, 17 and that the Messiah may dwell in your hearts through faith. I pray that you, being rooted and firmly established in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the length and width, height and depth of God's love, 19 and to know the Messiah's love that surpasses knowledge, so you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

20 Now to Him who is able to do above and beyond all that we ask or think according to the power that works in us— 21 to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
