Verse of the Day -weekend 4/20

Through the Bible - 1 Samuel 30 - 2 Samuel 3, Luke 18:1 - 19:10

Good morning,
For this weekend's verse we'll return to the Psalms.
Psalms 56 and 57 can be looked upon as "gut wrench" prayers. In these psalms David is praying for relief from his tormentors and safety from his enemies.
Today's verses begin Psalm 57.
Ps 57:1 Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me!
For my soul trusts in You;
And in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge,
Until these calamities have passed by.

2 I will cry out to God Most High,
To God who performs all things for me. NKJV

John MacArthurs' comments from Psalm 56 carry over to this psalm as well. He writes, "This psalm .... expresses the kind of confidence in the Lord that believers should exude when they find themselves in terrifying circumstances. David's natural reaction was to panic (56:3,4, 11). But he demonstrates in the psalm that the believer can replace potential terror with the composure of trust."
Read Psalm 57. David feels that traps have been set for him and that his very soul "is among lions". But he prays that his heart would remain steadfast and that his God would be exalted through it all.
Shouldn't that be the attitude of our hearts.
Be thinking about attitude, your attitude this weekend and as you begin the work week. What is your attitude towards God, in trying circumstances, in your day to day life at home, at work, among friends and family. Our attitude will have a great impact on the situations and will be evident to others.
Ps 57:9 I will praise You, O Lord, among the peoples;
I will sing to You among the nations.
10 For Your mercy reaches unto the heavens,
And Your truth unto the clouds.

11 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
Let Your glory be above all the earth.

In Christ,
Mike

Ps 57:1-6

57 Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me!
For my soul trusts in You;
And in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge,
Until these calamities have passed by.

2 I will cry out to God Most High,
To God who performs all things for me.

3 He shall send from heaven and save me;
He reproaches the one who would swallow me up.
Selah
God shall send forth His mercy and His truth.

4 My soul is among lions;
I lie among the sons of men
Who are set on fire,
Whose teeth are spears and arrows,
And their tongue a sharp sword.
5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
Let Your glory be above all the earth.

6 They have prepared a net for my steps;
My soul is bowed down;
They have dug a pit before me;
Into the midst of it they themselves have fallen.
Selah
NKJV
