Through the Bible - Proverbs 5-6, 1 Corinthians 14
Good morning,
It's so easy to get caught up in the concerns of daily life. A busy work schedule with various responsibilities, concerns on the home front from illness to strained relationships, concerns for our church, for our nation.... the list goes on.
One of the biggest things that gets left out of our schedules it time with God which actually would help us deal and cope with the stresses of the day.
Today's verse comes from Psalm 139. Reading this psalm should help us to realize and remember that God knows all about our daily struggles, many of which are the result of sin, which may include pride, selfishness or any number of things that get in the way of our relationship with God and others.
Ps 139:1 O Lord, You have searched me and known me. 2 You know my sitting down and my rising up;You understand my thought afar off. 3 You comprehend my path and my lying down,And are acquainted with all my ways. NKJV
This Psalm starts and ends with a call for God to search our hearts, to reveal to us who we truly are before Him, that we would know ourselves, our shortcomings, and that though we may fool others we will not fool Him.
What the psalm should help us realize that there is more to this life than all the struggles, stresses, and challenges that make it hard to make it through the day.
By turning to Him instead of away from Him, Jesus will lead us in the way everlasting. He will give us the strength for each day.
I was reminded of the song "More to this Life" by Steven Curtis Chapman.
Today I watched in silence as people passed me by,And I strained to see if there was something hidden in their eyes; But they all looked at me as if to sayLife just goes on.The old familiar story told in different ways,Make the most of your own journey from the cradle to the grave;Dream your dreams tomorrow because todayLife must go on.[Chorus:]But there's more to this life than living and dying,More than just trying to make it through the day;More to this life, more than these eyes alone can see,And there's more than this life alone can be.Tonight he lies in silence staring into space,And looks for ways to make tomorrow better than today,But in the morning light it looks the same;Life just goes on.He takes care of his family, he takes care of his work,And every Sunday morning he takes his place at the church; And somehow he still feels a need to search,But life just goes on.[Chorus]So where do we start to find every partOf what makes this life complete; If we turn our eyes to Jesus we'll findLife's true beginning is there at the cross where He died.He died to bring us...
More to this life and to everlasting life.
Read the psalm below. How does God's Word speak to you today?
Ps 139:17 How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God!How great is the sum of them! 18 If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; When I awake, I am still with You. NKJV
Wouldn't you like to start the day this way, every day?
In Christ,
Mike
Ps 139:1-140:1O Lord, You have searched me and known me. 2 You know my sitting down and my rising up;You understand my thought afar off. 3 You comprehend my path and my lying down,And are acquainted with all my ways. 4 For there is not a word on my tongue,But behold, O Lord, You know it altogether. 5 You have hedged me behind and before,And laid Your hand upon me. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;It is high, I cannot attain it. 7 Where can I go from Your Spirit?Or where can I flee from Your presence? 8 If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. 9 If I take the wings of the morning,And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, 10 Even there Your hand shall lead me,And Your right hand shall hold me. 11 If I say, "Surely the darkness shall fall on me,"Even the night shall be light about me; 12 Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You,But the night shines as the day;The darkness and the light are both alike to You. 13 For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother's womb. 14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works,And that my soul knows very well. 15 My frame was not hidden from You,When I was made in secret,And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written,The days fashioned for me,When as yet there were none of them. 17 How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God!How great is the sum of them! 18 If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; When I awake, I am still with You. 19 Oh, that You would slay the wicked, O God!Depart from me, therefore, you bloodthirsty men. 20 For they speak against You wickedly;Your enemies take Your name in vain. 21 Do I not hate them, O Lord, who hate You?And do I not loathe those who rise up against You? 22 I hate them with perfect hatred;I count them my enemies. 23 Search me, O God, and know my heart;Try me, and know my anxieties; 24 And see if there is any wicked way in me,And lead me in the way everlasting. NKJV
