Verse of the Day - weekend 12/20

Through the Bible - Micah 6-Nahum 3, Revelation 13

Good morning,

I was driving down to South Carolina for work the other day and was listening to a Chris Tomlin CD where I heard the song "Glory in the Highest". I had bought the CD earlier in the year but for whatever reason had never equated the song with the Christmas story when listening to it until just then.

I was moved by Chris Tomlin's modern version of a Hallelujah Chorus. Just think of what the shepherds must have felt when they heard the original chorus in person. Read the verses here or the passage below. Take a minute and try to imagine what it would have been like.

Luke 2:13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
14 "Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!" NKJV

or from The Message:
Luke 2:13-15 At once the angel was joined by a huge angelic choir singing God's praises:

Glory to God in the heavenly heights,
Peace to all men and women on earth who please him.

Sometimes today I get the feeling that we rely too much on all the high tech audio and video equipment and feel that we cannot worship properly without it. Looking back over the years, some of the most moving Christmas experiences was when at our old little church, we circled the sanctuary, lit by the candles in our hands, and sang hymns accapella in praise to our newborn King.

Read the words of Chris Tomlin's "Glory in the Highest" as an act of praise and preparation for worship this weekend.

Glory in the Highest

You are the first
You go before
You are the last
Lord, You're the encore

Your name's in lights
For all to see
The starry Host
Declare Your glory

Glory in the highest

Apart from You
There is no God
Light of the world
The Bright and Morning Star

Your name will shine
For all to see
You are the One
You are my glory

Glory in the highest

And no one else could ever compare
To You, Lord
All the earth together declares

Glory in the highest
To You, Lord

All the earth will sing Your praise
The moon and stars, the sun and rain
Every nation will proclaim
That You are God, and You will reign

So Glory, glory, hallelujah
Glory, Glory, to You, Lord
Glory, glory, hallelujah
Hallelujah

The shepherds after hearing about this and finding the baby Jesus, knew to do with good news, they shared it.

Luke 2:17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, NIV

Share the joy of the Saviour's birth, invite someone to one of the services this weekend.

In Christ,
Mike

Luke 2:8-21

Glory in the Highest

8 Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. 10 Then the angel said to them,"Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. 11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger."

13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:

14 "Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!"

15 So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, "Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us." 16 And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger. 17 Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. 18 And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds. 19 But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them.
