Verse of the Day 7/31

Through the Bible - Psalms 65-67, Romans 4

Good morning,
Yesterday in Romans 3 we looked at sin and it's consequences.  We recently considered the "power" of the Holy Spirit, - ability, efficiency, and might to live the Christian life.  Today we'll consider the good news that there is forgiveness.

1 John 1:8 If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. 9 But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.   NLT

Since Adam and Eve in the garden, Satan has been attempting to deceive, to twist, to have us question "did God really say".  When we listen to his lies we suffer the consequences and carry the baggage with us, a load of sin.

When we confess our sins and turn to Christ there is forgiveness, cleansing and healing.  As the old song goes "Jesus took the heavy load and gave me peace within".

J.I. Packer writes, "An educated, sensitive conscience is God's moniitor.  It alerts us to the moral quality of what we do or plan to do, forbids lawlessness and irresponsibility...  Satan's strategy is to corrupt, desencitize, and if possible kill our consciences.  The relativism, materialism, narcissism, secularism, and hedonism of today's western world help him mightily toward his goal.  His task is made simpler by the way in which the world's moral weaknesses have been taken into the Christian church."

Instead of being deceived and listening to the lies why don't we let the Holy Spirit quide and direct us.

Col 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.    NKJV

In Christ,
Mike
1 John 1:5-2:1
Fellowship with Him and One Another
5 This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

NKJV
