Verse of the Day - weekend 10/3

Through the Bible - Isaiah 29-32, Philippians 2-3

Good morning,
This morning I read Psalm 19 which, in the NKJV, has the caption "The Perfect Revelation of God".  It is a beautiful psalm that speaks of the majesty of God as displayed in His creation; in the stary host and the vastness of His work.
Having spent time in Michigan's Upper Peninsula at this time of year the colors in the trees are already changing as they soon will be here in North Carolina.  There's beauty and majesty in the big things as well as some of the smaller things down to the leaves and the snow that will soon be falling in some areas.

Having just come from Ephesians 6 we realize that there is a spiritual element, a battle going on around us as well.  We tend to see the big things while ignoring the small things (at least in our minds) in regards to sin and the damage it can bring.  I'm sure that we all have some of these "secret faults" in our lives that need dealt with.  These can range from "corrupt words" (Eph. 4) to envy and pride that we think nobody else sees.  They can take hold and seep into every area of our life if left unchecked.  They can destroy our relationship to God and others and dim our view of the majesty around us.  Our verse comes from later in the chapter and shows the heart of David in his desire to realize what is in his heart and what needs cleansing.

Ps 19:12 How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart?
Cleanse me from these hidden faults.
13 Keep your servant from deliberate sins!
Don't let them control me.
Then I will be free of guilt
and innocent of great sin.  NLT

Ps 19:12 Who can understand his errors?
Cleanse me from secret faults.
13 Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins;
Let them not have dominion over me.
Then I shall be blameless,
And I shall be innocent of great transgression.
NKJV

John MacArthur comments that the psalmist "deals respectively with unintentional sins and high handed infractions.  David's concerns reflect the attitude of a maturing disciple who, by God's grace and provisions, deals with his sins and does not deny them."

As part of worship this weekend, rejoice and praise God for the majesty of creation, the beauty of His holiness.  Be thankful also that He knows our hearts, ask Him to reveal and not deny any "wicked way" that remains in our hearts that needs cleansing.

It would also be a good preparation for as we participate in communion in many churches this Sunday.

In Christ,
Mike

Ps 19:1-20:1

19 1 The heavens proclaim the glory of God.The skies display his craftsmanship.2 Day after day they continue to speak;night after night they make him known.3 They speak without a sound or word;their voice is never heard. 4 Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world.
God has made a home in the heavens for the sun.5 It bursts forth like a radiant bridegroom after his wedding. It rejoices like a great athlete eager to run the race.6 The sun rises at one end of the heavensand follows its course to the other end.Nothing can hide from its heat.
7 The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple.8 The commandments of the Lord are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are clear, giving insight for living.9 Reverence for the Lord is pure, lasting forever. The laws of the Lord are true;each one is fair.10 They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold. They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb.11 They are a warning to your servant,a great reward for those who obey them.
12 How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart?Cleanse me from these hidden faults.13 Keep your servant from deliberate sins!Don't let them control me.Then I will be free of guiltand innocent of great sin.
14 May the words of my mouthand the meditation of my heartbe pleasing to you,O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.  NLT
