Verse of the Day 4/1

Through the Bible - Judges 8-10, Luke 9:1-27

Good morning,
For today's verse we'll go to Mark 14 where we find Jesus on trial, being questioned by the High Priest.  Up to this point several had given false testimony against Him and asked Him questions about His actions and previous statements like "I will destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days".  Jesus breaks the silence when asked the following question point blank.

Mark 14:61 But He kept still and did not answer at all. Again the high priest asked Him, Are You the Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One), the Son of the Blessed?
62And Jesus said, I AM; and you will [all] see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power (the Almighty) and coming on the clouds of heaven.  Amplified Bible

When confronted by Jesus' response the High Priest had two choices, to accept what Jesus said or reject it.  The high priests reaction were pure "theatre", he tore his garments in disgust, rejecting the One that he should have been looking for, the only one that could bring him into a right relationship with God.  He not only took a pass on what Jesus had to offer and joined others in condemning Him.
John Calvin gives us and idea of what it was the high priest was passing up.  Every one that still rejects Him passes up these same things.

"Every good thing we could think or desire is to be found in this same Jesus Christ alone. For he was sold, to buy us back; captive, to deliver us; condemned, to absolve us. He was made a curse for our blessing, sin offering for our righteousness; marred that we may be made fair.

He died for our life; so that by him fury is made gentle, wrath appeased, darkness turned into light, fear reassured, despisal despised, debt canceled, labor lightened, sadness made merry, misfortune made fortunate, difficulty easy, disorder ordered, division united, ignominy ennobled, rebellion subjected, intimidation intimidated, ambush uncovered, assaults assailed, force forced back, combat combated, war warred against, vengeance avenged, torment tormented, damnation damned, the abyss sunk into the abyss, hell transfixed, death dead, mortality made immortal."

We all have to make the choice to accept or reject His Words.  But we will all, like the high priest, see Him when He returns "coming on the clouds of heaven".  It will be a day of celebration and of judgment based on what you do with His Words.

In Christ,
Mike

Mark 14:53-66

Jesus Faces the Sanhedrin
(Matt 26:57-68; Luke 22:66-71; John 18:12-14,19-24)

53 And they led Jesus away to the high priest; and with him were assembled all the chief priests, the elders, and the scribes. 54 But Peter followed Him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest. And he sat with the servants and warmed himself at the fire.

55 Now the chief priests and all the council sought testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, but found none. 56 For many bore false witness against Him, but their testimonies did not agree.

57 Then some rose up and bore false witness against Him, saying, 58 "We heard Him say,'I will destroy this temple made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.'" 59 But not even then did their testimony agree.

60 And the high priest stood up in the midst and asked Jesus, saying, "Do You answer nothing? What is it these men testify against You?" 61 But He kept silent and answered nothing.

Again the high priest asked Him, saying to Him, "Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?"

62 Jesus said, "I am. And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven."

63 Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, "What further need do we have of witnesses? 64 You have heard the blasphemy! What do you think?"

And they all condemned Him to be deserving of death.

65 Then some began to spit on Him, and to blindfold Him, and to beat Him, and to say to Him, "Prophesy!" And the officers struck Him with the palms of their hands.    NKJV
