Verse of the Day 9/3

Through the Bible - Proverbs 5-6, 1 Corinthians 15:1 -34

Good morning,
My wife Jean and I met each other and both came to know the Lord in a little church in Illinois, Schiller Park Evangelical Free Church which later became Grace Community Church.  In some respects it seems like ages ago.  Yet as I write this, I can think of perhaps 15 people that receive these devotionals from that congregation.  Memories of times with them makes it feel like yesterday.
Us kids, learned about God from His Word, through sermons, Sunday School, AWANA Clubs and singing the old hymns.  Our three children came  to know the Lord through their Sunday School teacher, known to them as "Peachy" at an early age.
The little church and its people weathered some storms then as we do now and as God's people have through the ages.  God was our very present help then, He still is today, and will be tomorrow.
For today's verse we'll go to Psalm 46.

Psalm 46:1-3 (Amplified Bible) 1GOD IS our Refuge and Strength [mighty and impenetrable to temptation], a very present and well-proved help in trouble.  2Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change and though the mountains be shaken into the midst of the seas,  3Though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling and tumult. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!

As a hurricane pounds the eastern shores of North Carolina we can be reminded that God is our refuge in the storms of life.  The God that was there and brought His people through the storms through the ages is still there.  Pause, and calmly think of that should you be facing a "stormy blast" today.
I was reminded of a song that I learned at Grace, "O God Our Help in Ages Past".

1.O God, our help in ages past,
our hope for years to come,
our shelter from the stormy blast,
and our eternal home.

2.Under the shadow of thy throne,
still may we dwell secure;
sufficient is thine arm alone,
and our defense is sure.

3.Before the hills in order stood,
or earth received her frame,
from everlasting, thou art God,
to endless years the same.

4.A thousand ages, in thy sight,
are like an evening gone;
short as the watch that ends the night,
before the rising sun.

5 O God, our help in ages past,
our hope for years to come;
be thou our guide while life shall last,
and our eternal home.

Blessings,
Mike

Psalms 46
46:1  God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. Selah
4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells.
5 God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.
6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
7 The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah
8 Come and see the works of the LORD, the desolations he has brought on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear, he burns the shields with fire.
10 "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."
11 The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah    NIV
