Through the Bible - Isaiah 59-61, Mark 14:1-26
Happy Valentines Day,
Today is a day where love will be spoken and thought of perhaps more than any other day.
For today's verse we'll go to Colossians 3 which speaks of love as something to be put on, to clothe yourselves, wrap yourselves with.
Col 3:12 Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. NIV
The passage tells us to put off, to take off such things as anger, wrath, malice, slander and filthy language and replace them with these other qualities topped off by love.
My wife likes to watch the program "What Not to Wear". They take a person that is in need of a makeover and try to educate the person in making the right choices. They start by having the person choose what they would like to wear. She then wears them for the hosts review at which point they are told why they shouldn't wear those or that type of clothing. They then make suggestions. The candidate for a makeover then goes in private and puts on the new clothes, the new self and the transformation is put on display.
The change takes place in private. The old has to be taken off and the new has to be put on. You don't put the new on top of the old, it won't fit right.
The Christian is to put on love as the most important part of his or her life. The type of love is not what is often spoken about in the greeting cards that will be given today. We will find it in 1 Corinthians 13, the love chapter. We'll end with a few verses that we should put on, model and live in every day.
1 Cor 13:4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. NLT
Your greeting cards will have more meaning if this is the kind of love that you display.
In Christ,
Mike

Eph 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace NIV
Col 3:8-16
8 But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. 11 Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all.

12 Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.
