Verse of the Day -weekend 3/5

Through the Bible - Exodus 39-40, Job 1-2,  James 5, 1 Corinthians 1

Good morning,
There are literally hundreds of names for God that can be found in the Bible, names given to describe part of who He is.  Abraham introduces us to one of these at the end of Genesis 21.  God had been with him throughout his life and Abraham could look back and see the hand of God and would be with him through eternity.  The name he introduces is Jehovah El Olam, meaning "The Lord, the Eternal God".  Abraham did not know it but he was being prepared for the biggest challenge of his life.

Gen 21:32 After the treaty had been made at Beersheba, Abimelech and Phicol the commander of his forces returned to the land of the Philistines. 33 Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba, and there he called upon the name of the Lord, the Eternal God.   NIV

For this weekend's verse, we'll go to Psalm 90 where we see the term used again this time by Moses.

Ps 90 Lord, you have been our  dwelling place
in all generations.
2  Before the  mountains were brought forth,
or ever you had formed the earth and the world,
 from everlasting to everlasting you are God.  ESV

Several hymns and modern choruses revolve around this theme from this passage and others like Isaiah 40:28-31.  The prophet reveals a good understanding of the significance of our Everlasting God.

Isa 40:28 Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The Lord is  the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
 his understanding is unsearchable.
29 He gives power to the faint,
and to him who has no might he increases strength.
30 Even youths shall faint and be weary,
and young men shall fall exhausted;
31 but  they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings  like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.
ESV
In preparation for worship this weekend, consider what the Everlasting God means to you.  Perhaps you can personalize one of the songs.

My God, my help in ages past,
My hope for years to come,
My shelter from the stormy blast,
And my eternal home.

In Christ,
Mike

Eph 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace  NIV
Ps 90:1-5

90 Lord, you have been our dwelling place
throughout all generations.
2 Before the mountains were born
or you brought forth the earth and the world,
from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

3 You turn men back to dust,
saying, "Return to dust, O sons of men."
4 For a thousand years in your sight
are like a day that has just gone by,
or like a watch in the night.

NIV
