Through the Bible - Numbers 15-16, Revelation 20
Good morning,
When you hear the word "beatitude" most Christians will probably think of Jesus words in the sermon on the mount in Matthew 5 and Luke 6. Many fail to realize some of the other "beatitudes" located in scriptures. If you have been reading along in Revelation in the past month you will read seven other beatitudes spread out in this book.
For today's verse, today's beatitude, we'll go to Revelation chapter 1 where we read:
Revelation 1:3 (New King James Version) Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near.
Do you or do you know someone who needs a blessing today? Read and encourage others to read His Word.
Time, as referred to in this verse refers to an epoch, age, or season. The book of Revelation was written to prepare and warn us that the next great age or epoch was imminent. With all of the crazy stuff going on in our world today it is not hard to believe that this is the case.
In Matthew 7:7 we are encouraged to "keep asking, keep seeking and keep knocking". The participles here in verse through can be viewed the same way, keep reading, keep hearing and keep doing, in other words, keep living according to the will of God as expressed in His Word.
This applies to the individual, he who reads, and to all those who will listen and put His words into practice.
In reading, we tune our hearts to God.
Come, thou Fount of every blessing,
tune my heart to sing thy grace;
streams of mercy, never ceasing,
call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! I'm fixed upon it,
mount of thy redeeming love.
Here I raise mine Ebenezer;
hither by thy help I'm come;
and I hope, by thy good pleasure,
safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
wandering from the fold of God;
he, to rescue me from danger,
interposed his precious blood.
tune my heart to sing thy grace;
streams of mercy, never ceasing,
call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! I'm fixed upon it,
mount of thy redeeming love.
Here I raise mine Ebenezer;
hither by thy help I'm come;
and I hope, by thy good pleasure,
safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
wandering from the fold of God;
he, to rescue me from danger,
interposed his precious blood.
If you are in need of a blessing, go to the source, go to the fount of every blessing.
Blessings,
Mike
