Verse of the Day 2/15

 2 Kings 25:30 (AMP)  And his allowance, a continual one, was given him by the king, every day a portion, for the rest of his life.

Isn't this how it is with God's grace?  We're not spiritual camels that come to God for a drink that will last us a month,  but as the deer pants for water (Ps. 42:1) we need our portion every day.

In Spurgeon's morning devotional from yesterday he writes, "Beloved Christian reader, in matters of grace you need a daily supply. You have no store of strength. Day by day must you seek help from above. It is a very sweet assurance that a daily portion is provided for you. In the word, through the ministry, by meditation, in prayer, and waiting upon God you shall receive renewed strength. In Jesus all needful things are laid up for you. Then enjoy your continual allowance. Never go hungry while the daily bread of grace is on the table of mercy."

Yesterday's verse showed the raw emotion of wanting to fly away from the circumstances.  But David and others throughout the Bible and throughout history have learned to turn to God to provide for their daily supply of grace.
The words of the old hymn, "Day by Day and with Each Passing Moment" came to mind.

Day by day, and with each passing moment,
Strength I find to meet my trials here;
Trusting in my Father's wise bestowment,
I've no cause for worry or for! fear.
He, whose heart is kind beyond all measure,
Gives unto each day what He deems best,
Lovingly its part of pain and pleasure,
Mingling toil with peace and rest.

The passage below shows how even an evil king provided for and dined with one of his subjects.  We serve the King of Kings.  May we seek the Lord and come to Him for His daily portion for the rest of our lives.

In Christ,
Mike

2 Kings 25:27-30 Amplified Bible (AMP)

27And in the thirty-seventh year of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, on the twenty-seventh day of the twelfth month, Evil-merodach king of Babylon, in the year that he began to reign, showed favor to Jehoiachin king of Judah and released him from prison;

    28He spoke kindly to him and ranked him above the kings with him in Babylon.

    29Jehoiachin put off his prison garments, and he dined regularly at the king's table the remainder of his life.

    30And his allowance, a continual one, was given him by the king, every day a portion, for the rest of his life.
