Luke 24:6-7 (NKJV) He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, 7 saying, 'The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.'"
As my wife Jean and I were getting ready for church this morning we heard out son Jeff yell "woo hoo!" from the other room. When I went in to see what it was about I heard the pastor on television saying "He is not dead, He's alive, He's alive!". That it what Easter is all about. What seemed like dark hours for the women who went to the tomb and to the disciples were turned into great joy and hope.
Year's ago, after our son Jeff's accident, I was making the long drive home from out of state. Jeff had been airlifted to the hospital and Jean was being brought by car. I got through to the hospital by phone, but got very little information. Jean hadn't arrived yet and they wouldn't give out much information about Jeff. I asked, can you at least tell me that he is alive? They wouldn't. I drove for what seemed like hours waiting to hear those words "he's alive". Thankfully, I did hear those words. More than that, thankfully the ladies and the disciples heard those words on that Easter morning so may years ago in regards to Jesus, our Saviour. We can still take comfort that Jesus is still alive, He conquered death, so that one day we will as well.
Situations like that or like the disciples and Jesus' followers felt after the crucifixion bring out all kinds of feelings, from hopelessness to despair, to heart wrenching pain with little hope. The words "he is alive" bring back hope, lessen some of the pain, and give us strength to press on, to face tomorrow.
God sent His son, they called Him Jesus
He came to love, heal, and forgive.
He lived and died to buy my pardon,
An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives.
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.
Because He lives, All fear is gone.
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living just because He lives.
And then one day I'll cross the river,
I'll fight life's final war with pain.
And then as death gives way to victory,
I'll see the lights of glory and I'll know He lives.
Luke 24:23 (NKJV) When they did not find His body, they came saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said He was alive.
In Christ,
Mike

Luke 24 New King James Version (NKJV)
He Is Risen
24 Now on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they, and certain other women with them, came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. 2 But they found the stone rolled away from the tomb. 3 Then they went in and did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 And it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. 5 Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, "Why do you seek the living among the dead? 6 He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, 7 saying, 'The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.'"
8 And they remembered His words. 9 Then they returned from the tomb and told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. 10 It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them, who told these things to the apostles. 11 And their words seemed to them like idle tales, and they did not believe them. 12 But Peter arose and ran to the tomb; and stooping down, he saw the linen cloths lying by themselves; and he departed, marveling to himself at what had happened.
