Verse of the Day 10/24

1 Timothy 6:11 But you, man of God, run from these things,
and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith,
love, endurance, and gentleness.   (HCSB)

The preceding verse is probably more familiar to us, it reads "the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil" and goes on to tell us that the desire for more and more if it will bring harm to us and may cause us to wander from the faith.

Our pursuits, our convictions will define who we are.  The world runs, chases after money and the things that can be acquired through it.  It leads to greed.  The news is full of the results of this pursuit, all kinds of crime from robbery to ponzy schemes, and extortion.

Paul is speaking to Timothy and to any of us who would consider ourselves to be men and women "of God", telling him, telling us that we should be headed in the opposite direction, not simply walking away, but running from it to pursue things of eternal value, a right standing before God, showing godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness in our lives.

What is it that we are chasing, pursuing?  What are our "convictions"?

Blessings,
Mike

1 Timothy 6:8-11   Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

But if we have food and clothing,
we will be content with these.

But those who want to be rich fall into temptation, a trap, and many foolish and harmful desires, which plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and by craving it, some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pains.

Fight the Good Fight

11 But you, man of God, run from these things,
and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith,
love, endurance, and gentleness.
