Verse of the Day 7/22

Psalm 6:2  Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am languishing;
    heal me, O Lord, for my bones are troubled.    English Standard Version (ESV)

Over the past couple of days we've seen where we need God's grace in the form of His help and His strength.  Today's verse is a call for His grace when we are in need of healing.

The ESV uses the word "languishing" it is one we may not use on a regular basis but it forms a picture in our minds.  It's a picture of a boat at sea without power "languishing" against the waves, being tossed about without any influence as to the direction is heading.  Sometimes we are in need of physical, emotional, or spiritual healing and we feel the same way, especially when dealing with chronic pain or long term illness.

The call is a call of desperation to the only one who has the power to help you through the situation.  Later in the psalm, the David acknowledges that he knows that the Lord has heard his prayer, has faith that God will answer him to the shame of the naysayers and to the glory of God.

If you are "languishing" today, turn to Him, call to Him, may He be merciful and gracious to you.  David had his share of dark hours, he learned to trust, to depend upon the Lord, He did not let him down.

Blessings,
Mike

Psalm 6

English Standard Version (ESV)

O Lord, Deliver My Life

To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments; according to The Sheminith.  A Psalm of David.

O Lord, rebuke me not in your anger,
    nor discipline me in your wrath.
Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am languishing;
    heal me, O Lord, for my bones are troubled.
My soul also is greatly troubled.
    But you, O Lordhow long?
Turn, O Lord, deliver my life;
    save me for the sake of your steadfast love.
For in death there is no remembrance of you;
    in Sheol who will give you praise?
I am weary with my moaning;
    every night I flood my bed with tears;
    I drench my couch with my weeping.
My eye wastes away because of grief;
    it grows weak because of all my foes.
Depart from me, all you workers of evil,
    for the Lord has heard the sound of my weeping.
The Lord has heard my plea;
    the Lord accepts my prayer.
1All my enemies shall be ashamed and greatly troubled;
    they shall turn back and be put to shame in a moment.
