Hebrews 6:17-18 Because God wanted to show His unchangeable purpose even more clearly to the heirs of the promise, He guaranteed it with an oath, 18 so that through two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to seize the hope set before us. Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
When I read these verses yesterday I immediately thought of the song "Your Love Never Fails", especially the lines "you stay the same through the ages, your love never changes, there may be pain in the night but joy comes in the morning.
Throughout the scriptures we are given many promises and time and time again, through the ages, He has proved to be faithful and true. As we head into the New Year may we take "strong encouragement" that His love never changes and that He will see us through.
Pastor James MacDonald writes, "God is committed to helping you lay hold of His promises because He knows they will give you strength. He wants to impress upon you "the unchangeable character of His purpose", so you can be confident and solid in what you believe about Him. God doesn't want you wavering and wandering through life, doubting of faltering in your faith. He is saying in effect, Go after the Christian life with confidence! Take hold of it with conviction, I want you to have full assurance right to the end. Don't give up or back up. Don't quit."
Whatever you may face today or this coming year, may you stand strong, standing on the promises of God.
Standing on the promises of Christ my King,
through eternal ages let his praises ring;
glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
standing on the promises of God.
Standing on the promises that cannot fail,
when the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
by the living Word of God I shall prevail,
standing on the promises of God.
through eternal ages let his praises ring;
glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
standing on the promises of God.
Standing on the promises that cannot fail,
when the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
by the living Word of God I shall prevail,
standing on the promises of God.
Standing, standing,
standing on the promises of Christ my Savior;
standing, standing,
I'm standing on the promises of God.
standing on the promises of Christ my Savior;
standing, standing,
I'm standing on the promises of God.
Stand on the promises. "He backs them to the hilt". (v.13 The Message)
In Christ,

The Message (MSG)
God Gave His Word
13-18 When God made his promise to Abraham, he backed it to the hilt, putting his own reputation on the line. He said, "I promise that I'll bless you with everything I havebless and bless and bless!" Abraham stuck it out and got everything that had been promised to him. When people make promises, they guarantee them by appeal to some authority above them so that if there is any question that they'll make good on the promise, the authority will back them up. When God wanted to guarantee his promises, he gave his word, a rock-solid guaranteeGod can't break his word. And because his word cannot change, the promise is likewise unchangeable.
