Verse of the Day 12/4
2 Chronicles 16:9 For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward him. You have done foolishly in this, for from now on you will have wars English Standard Version (ESV)
Yesterday, and for the past couple of days we've considered what it means to humble yourself before God, admitting our faults, our sins, who you really are, and submitting to God, following in obedience where He leads. We read where in Proverbs we are told that "God is gracious to the humble" - Prov 3:34. I believe that that is what the writer had in mind when he writes of those whose hearts are "blameless".
The passage is actually talking about King Asa, whose heart was not blameless, but proud. He would not turn to God, would not humble his heart and turned away from God.
David Jeremiah writes, "whatever happened, Asa served as a warning for us. We must keep close to the Lord every day, being quick to confess and turn from all known sin. Our hearts should break when we do wrong, knowing it was our sins that nailed Jesus to the cross. We should keep a tender heart, one that is growing warmer, not colder. Ask God today for a tender conscience and closer walk with Him."
May we remember that "God is always on the alert, constantly on the lookout for people who are totally committed to Him." (The Message). May we be one of those people, He will give us the strong support that we need.
2 Chronicles 16:8-10The Message (MSG)
7-9 Just after that, Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah and said, "Because you went for help to the king of Aram and didn't ask God for help, you've lost a victory over the army of the king of Aram. Didn't the Ethiopians and Libyans come against you with superior forces, completely outclassing you with their chariots and cavalry? But you asked God for help and he gave you the victory. God is always on the alert, constantly on the lookout for people who are totally committed to him. You were foolish to go for human help when you could have had God's help. Now you're in trouble—one round of war after another."
10 At that, Asa lost his temper. Angry, he put Hanani in the stocks. At the same time Asa started abusing some of the people.
