Verse of the Day 5/1
Matthew 6:19-20 "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust[a]destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. English Standard Version (ESV)
Yesterday we considered what is it that we aspire to, what is our desire? Today's verses should be familiar to us and from verse 21 should come the question what is my treasure?
Today probably more than ever people are concerned about their retirement, will they have enough to live "comfortably". There are 401 K plans and people have to decide what to invest in, should it be stocks or bonds a combination? Then there are predictions of financial doom in the economy and sky rocketing inflation which will wipe away what has been put away, therefore you should invest in gold, no, maybe it is silver?
We should be concerned about our future, but it should not take away of what is truly important in our day today and from what will be important for eternity. It is the things of the heart. Investing money, but more so, time, in the things that we love, not actually things but people. Family, friends, even strangers.
Hoarding is "laying up for yourselves", stockpiling. Investing in relationships, in God and others, may not seem like laying up for yourselves, but God sees to it that it comes back to you exponentially.
Matthew 6:19-21The Message (MSG)
A Life of God-Worship
19-21 "Don't hoard treasure down here where it gets eaten by moths and corroded by rust or—worse!—stolen by burglars. Stockpile treasure in heaven, where it's safe from moth and rust and burglars. It's obvious, isn't it? The place where your treasure is, is the place you will most want to be, and end up being.
