Deuteronomy 4:40 Therefore you shall keep his statutes and his commandments, which I command you today, that it may go well with you and with your children after you, and that you may prolong your days in the land that the Lord your God is giving you for all time."  English Standard Version (ESV)

Happy New Year!   A new day and a new year, an opportunity for change, positive change, leave last year behind and head into the new year with resolutions and goals with optimism.  That is what we want to do.

For the Christian, today's verse in The Message below, should begin with these thoughts in mind and let everything else follow, "Know this well, then. Take it to heart right now: God is in Heaven above;God is on Earth below. He's the only God there is."  Make it a goal to live by and for Him.  We should also do our best to bring others along on that journey that pilgrimage and make an effort to take our country back.

David Jeremiah writes, "When George Washington was inaugurated as America's first president, his inaugural address included these words: ". . . the [favorable] smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right which Heaven itself has ordained." 

If we want things "to go well with us" we cannot disregard, as individuals or as a nation, what God has called us to do and who He has called us to be.  May we be resolute in our commitment to "keep His statutes", to "obediently live by his rules and  commands", so that it will go well with us, for our sake and for the next generations.

The years can take us far away
From the simple childlike faith.

To the place where I first learned.

Obediently live by his rules and commands which I'm giving you today so that you'll live well and your children after you—oh, you'll live a long time in the land that God, your God, is giving you.
