Verse of the Day 4/14

Mark 5:36   But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue, "Do not fear, only believe."

There is a lot going on in today's passage.  Jesus was on His way to see Jairus' daughter and a woman who had chronic illness had touched Jesus and been healed and now word came that Jairus' daughter had died.  The crowd was involved and shared their opinion that there was no point in Jesus going on since the girl was dead.  Can you imagine all that was going on in Jairus' head?

I'm sure you've been in the position before when you were anxious to get somewhere and someone, maybe one of your parents who was along with you would say something like, "I need to run in here for a few minutes" and you waited in the car for what seemed like an eternity before your parent came out and you continued on your way.  You were anxious and thought that you might miss your opportunity.  Multiply that by 1000 and you won't approach what Jairus must have felt.

Jesus then, as He does now, tells Jairus to block out those other voices, and not to fear and to "only believe", to continue to have faith and to trust in Him.  It is the same voice that brought Lazarus up from the grave the same voice that would lift his daughter from the dead and come from the same person who Himself would arise from the dead that was telling him to "only believe".

Whatever challenges we may be facing today, if we are following Him, He is calling us, challenging us not to fear, not to listen to those other voices telling us to give up,  but only believe, to trust, to have faith in Him.

Come, every soul by sin oppressed,
there's mercy with the Lord;
and he will surely give you rest,
by trusting in his Word.
Refrain:
Only trust him, only trust him,
only trust him now.
He will save you, he will save you,
he will save you now.

Blessings,
Mike
Mark 5:35-43The Message (MSG)
35 While he was still talking, some people came from the leader's house and told him, "Your daughter is dead. Why bother the Teacher any more?"
36 Jesus overheard what they were talking about and said to the leader, "Don't listen to them; just trust me."
37-40 He permitted no one to go in with him except Peter, James, and John. They entered the leader's house and pushed their way through the gossips looking for a story and neighbors bringing in casseroles. Jesus was abrupt: "Why all this busybody grief and gossip? This child isn't dead; she's sleeping." Provoked to sarcasm, they told him he didn't know what he was talking about.
40-43 But when he had sent them all out, he took the child's father and mother, along with his companions, and entered the child's room. He clasped the girl's hand and said, "Talitha koum," which means, "Little girl, get up." At that, she was up and walking around! This girl was twelve years of age. They, of course, were all beside themselves with joy. He gave them strict orders that no one was to know what had taken place in that room. Then he said, "Give her something to eat."
