Verse of the Day 6/2
Psalm 130:6-7 my soul waits for the Lord
more than watchmen for the morning,
more than watchmen for the morning.
7 O Israel, hope in the Lord!
For with the Lord there is steadfast love,
and with him is plentiful redemption. English Standard Version (ESV)
Today's verses come from Psalm 130 which was part of my daily reading in the Psalms. Two things caught my attention as I read today's verses. The first was God's steadfast love which we considered the other day from Psalm 103 which spoke of God's steadfast and faithful love being "toward" us. The other phrase that caught my attention was "and with him is plentiful redemption".
There are things in life that are in limited supply. Think of the lines that form when the latest iPhone is released, people want to make sure that they get one. Think of the rush at Christmas as people wait for the doors to open to get one of those toys for their children that are "all the rage" that year. Each year we will see stories of nasty things that people have done to others in order to secure something that within days or weeks will be cast aside and sitting in a corner.
Today's verses remind us that God, through Jesus Christ has already redeemed us, he has secured our salvation and it cannot be snatched away from us, no one can steal it or prevent us from obtaining it.
There are times in our lives when we will be anxious for things. These can be physical possessions, but more often than not are related to situations. Waiting for a diagnosis, waiting for news of a loved one, or perhaps where the money will come from to pay the next mortgage payment. The psalmist shows us that in these situations, he waits on the Lord and verse 6 shows us where he goes to find the hope that he needs, "and in his word I hope".
Perhaps you've had something on your mind that has kept you tossing and turning, unable to sleep, anxious for what will occur when the morning comes. In those times may we turn to the Word, turn to the Lord "for with the Lord there is steadfast love, and with him is plentiful redemption."
I'll close with a few lines from the Gaither Vocal Band song "Keep Believing"
So when doubts arise and cloud your mind
My friend, don't be deceived
For with a knowledge of the Word of God
In our hearts we can believe
You can take God at his word
He is faithful kind and true
Not a prayer will go unanswered
In His time He'll see you through
Keep believing in what you know is true
Keep believing, you know the Lord will see you through
When troubles rise in your life
and you don't know what to do,
Keep believing

Psalm 130:6-8The Message (MSG)
5-6 I pray to God—my life a prayer—
and wait for what he'll say and do.
My life's on the line before God, my Lord,
waiting and watching till morning,
waiting and watching till morning.
7-8 O Israel, wait and watch for God—
with God's arrival comes love,
with God's arrival comes generous redemption.
No doubt about it—he'll redeem Israel,
buy back Israel from captivity to sin.
