Verse of the Day 11/7
Hebrews 2:3 how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard, English Standard Version (ESV)
Neglect is never a good thing and the results of it are often known and on display for others to see. Neglect can take the form of mistreating people, children, family. We can neglect our homes and watch them fall into disrepair, we can neglect our cars and eventually "the wheels will come off".
It is a sobering thought to "neglect" our salvation as stated in today's verse. In The Message below, the author encourages us to keep a firm grip on what we've heard, what we've been taught, what we've learned from the Bible and not to drift off. Isn't that how neglect begins. We drift off, we don't pay attention to something that we should and before you know it, it shows.
You may ask, how does one neglect their salvation? John Piper writes:
Only what is it really — this great salvation? What he's really saying is: Don't neglect being loved by God. Don't neglect being forgiven and accepted and protected and strengthened and guided by Almighty God. Don't neglect the sacrifice of Christ's life on the cross. Don't neglect the free gift of righteousness imputed by faith. Don't neglect the removal of God's wrath and the reconciled smile of God. Don't neglect the indwelling Holy Spirit and the fellowship and friendship of the living Christ. Don't neglect the radiance of God's glory in the face of Jesus. Don't neglect the free access to the throne of grace. Don't neglect the inexhaustible treasure of God's promises. This is a great salvation. Neglecting it is very evil. Don't neglect so great a salvation. Because if you do, you will perish without escape.
The best way not to neglect it is to keep it before you and the best way to keep it before you is to read His Word daily. Keep it close to your heart and mind. The psalmist writes:
Psalm 119:15-16New International Version (NIV)
15 I meditate on your precepts
and consider your ways.
16 I delight in your decrees;
I will not neglect your word.

Hebrews 2:1-4The Message (MSG)
2 1-4 It's crucial that we keep a firm grip on what we've heard so that we don't drift off. If the old message delivered by the angels was valid and nobody got away with anything, do you think we can risk neglecting this latest message, this magnificent salvation? First of all, it was delivered in person by the Master, then accurately passed on to us by those who heard it from him. All the while God was validating it with gifts through the Holy Spirit, all sorts of signs and miracles, as he saw fit.
