Verse of the Day 4/13
John 2:11 This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him. English Standard Version (ESV)
About a year ago my wife Jean and I had the privilege to go to Israel and one of the places that we visited was Cana. There was not much to see compared to the other sites that we visited but it was important because this is where it all began in terms of Jesus' ministry and it was the site of His first miracle, that of turning the water into wine. It was also the place where John records that the disciples "first believed". This was the first time that Jesus "manifested", "gave a glimpse of" (The Message) and put His glory on display.
Pastor Greg Laurie writes, "the word disciple means "a learner". If you're a disciple of Jesus then you're a learner. You're someone who is listening and processing. These disciples listened to Jesus and followed Him." He went on to describe the different phases of where people are spiritually: curious, convinced and committed. The disciples had been curious and now after seeing the miracle they believed, they were convinced. The committed part was in progress, they would not be fully committed until they had witnessed His death and resurrection. At that point, through their belief, faith and trust in Him they were able to change the world.
Where are you in that pendulum - curious, convinced or committed? You may have been curious, seeking to know more about Him. Perhaps, then an event in your life, an answer to prayer or even a miracle in your life that caused you to believe, like the disciples in today's passage. Are you committed, have you fully grasped and taken to heart His death and resurrection that we recently celebrated at Easter?
1 John 5:4-5 For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? English Standard Version (ESV)

John 2:9-12 The Message (MSG)
9-10 When the host tasted the water that had become wine (he didn't know what had just happened but the servants, of course, knew), he called out to the bridegroom, "Everybody I know begins with their finest wines and after the guests have had their fill brings in the cheap stuff. But you've saved the best till now!"
11 This act in Cana of Galilee was the first sign Jesus gave, the first glimpse of his glory. And his disciples believed in him.
12 After this he went down to Capernaum along with his mother, brothers, and disciples, and stayed several days.
