Verse of the Day 7/16
Proverbs 1:33 but whoever listens to me will dwell secure
and will be at ease, without dread of disaster." English Standard Version (ESV)
Most, if not all of you, would agree that we live in a very insecure time. There is strife all around the world and in our own country, towns and even homes.
People invest in security systems in hopes of keeping their homes safe. Many people invest in banks and institutions that are secured, backed by the US government in hopes of not losing it in a financial collapse. It is sad, no, it is more than that, it is tragic that people will seek security for the here and now and for their future here but not give a second thought about eternity.
Today's verse comes from the first chapter of Proverbs, written by Solomon, perhaps the richest person who ever lived, easily the wealthiest of his day. He wrote these words under the inspiration of God, he war referring to listening to wisdom, which ultimately is listening to God; reading, hearing and obeying His Word as we find in the Bible. It is where we find ultimate security, a security found in heaven, through faith and trust in Jesus, in God.
No matter what feelings of insecurity we may have here, we can look beyond it and find peace of mind, "without dread of disaster", leaning on Jesus and God's everlasting arms.
Leaning on the everlasting arms
What a blessedness, what a peace is mine
Leaning on the everlasting arms
Safe and secure from all alarms
Leaning, leaning
Leaning on the everlasting arms
Leaning on the everlasting arms?
I have blessed peace with my Lord so near
Leaning on the everlasting arms

Proverbs 1:29-33 English Standard Version (ESV)
29 Because they hated knowledge
and did not choose the fear of the Lord,
30 would have none of my counsel
and despised all my reproof,
31 therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way,
and have their fill of their own devices.
32 For the simple are killed by their turning away,
and the complacency of fools destroys them;
33 but whoever listens to me will dwell secure
and will be at ease, without dread of disaster."
