Verse of the Day 10/26
1 Timothy 4:12 Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity. New King James Version (NKJV)
1 & 2 Timothy were written by Paul to a young pastor. In today's verse he encourages him not to let anyone look down on him because of his age, but to overcome their derision by being an example.
In today's society, it is not uncommon for us "older" people to be dismissed or disregarded in our stance on things. If Paul were around today, he would probably give us the same kind of message; " be and example". Show others "the way" by living it out day by day.
Notice the areas in our lives that Paul focuses on. In word; our speech, the way we talk, the words we choose; in conduct - how we act, how we carry ourselves, setting an example to follow; in love - how we love, putting others first, showing compassion, grace and mercy; in spirit - this is not spirit with a capital "s" but reflects our demeanor, our outlook on life and how we react to life and it's curveballs; in faith - go back to Hebrews 11:1-2 "faith is the assurance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen", our lives are to reflect our faith as substance; and in purity - living a godly life.
Whether you are young or old, let no one look down on you because of your age, but be an example in word, conduct, love, in spirit, faith and purity.
Read the passage below. Immerse yourselves in God's Word and may God cultivate it in your life.
Blessings,
Mike
1 Timothy 4:12-16 The Message (MSG)
11-14 Get the word out. Teach all these things. And don't let anyone put you down because you're young. Teach believers with your life: by word, by demeanor, by love, by faith, by integrity. Stay at your post reading Scripture, giving counsel, teaching. And that special gift of ministry you were given when the leaders of the church laid hands on you and prayed—keep that dusted off and in use.
15-16 Cultivate these things. Immerse yourself in them. The people will all see you mature right before their eyes! Keep a firm grasp on both your character and your teaching. Don't be diverted. Just keep at it. Both you and those who hear you will experience salvation.
