Verse of the Day 11/2
Titus 2:11-12 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, 12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age,
New King James Version (NKJV)
My Old Testament reading this morning was from Genesis 6 where the story of Noah begins. In chapter 5 we read how Enoch walked with God for 365 years and then "took him" to be with him. The next person that we read about who walked with God as Noah, in Genesis 6:8 we read that Noah "found grace in the eyes of the Lord" and in verse 9 we read "Noah walked with God."
We may think that we live in a corrupt world a corrupt generation and at times it is hard to imagine that it could be any worse, but in reading Genesis 6, I don't think that I'd want to change places. We may also think that grace was something that came along in the New Testament. It is a key component of today's verse but we find this grace all the way back to the time of Noah and before. It always has been God's grace that has allowed and enabled us to "walk with Him". God's grace was present in the garden when He walked with them in the garden and when he called out to Adam "where are you" after Adam and Eve had sinned. He knew where they were, what they had done, but in grace He called out to them.
We are not to live as the rest of the world but by God's grace to walk with God "in the light of His Word" as the old hymn "Trust and Obey" goes. We are also be looking for that glorious day of His return mentioned in verse 13 of today's passage. Read it below.
Last night as I was working in the garage I heard the Casting Crowns version of "Oh Glorious Day", a modernized version of the old hymn. It brought back memories of the church I grew up in, the hymns, especially the Sunday night services where we sang many of them week after week. I didn't realize it then, but am so thankful that they still remind me to look and hope for that "glorious day. If your day today looks dark because of the condition of the world, look to that glorious day and decide to walk with God in it. Who knows, He just might come back today.
One day when sin was as black as could be
Jesus came forth to be born of a virgin
Dwelt among men, my example is He
Word became flesh and the light shined among us
His glory revealed
Dying, He saved me
Buried, He carried my sins far away
Rising, He justified freely forever
One day He's coming
Oh glorious day, oh glorious day

Titus 2:11-13 New Living Translation (NLT)
11 For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people. 12 And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God, 13 while we look forward with hope to that wonderful day when the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be revealed.
