Verse of the Day 2/16
James 3:17-18 But the wisdom from above is always pure, filled with peace, considerate and teachable. It is filled with love and never displays prejudice or hypocrisy in any form 18 and it always bears the beautiful harvest of righteousness! Good seeds of wisdom's fruit will be planted with peaceful acts by those who cherish making peace. The Passion Translation (TPT)
For today's verse we'll return to James 3. James, like Proverbs of the Old Testament, is a book of wisdom, filled with sound advice for the Christ follower, or anyone for that matter. Verse 17 tells of some of the characteristics of godly wisdom - pure; filled with peace; considerate, filled with love and teachable to name a few.
In our society it seems that everyone thinks that their wisdom is greater than the next persons. Instead of listening people close there ears and minds to any opposition and dig in their heels on a position and often resort to cursing others and God in the process.
The TPT translation uses the word "teachable" where the ESV (below) states "open to reason". They make the same point. The notes in the TPT translation for this word states, "easy to correct" or "ready to be convinced" or "willing to yield to others." Is this true of your life?
How can you be open to reason, easy to correct, ready to be convinced, or willing to yield if you have your heels dug in and close your ears and mind to dialog?
The focus of the attitude expressed in these verses peaceful acts by those who cherish making peace. May we be peacemakers in our corner of the world today and in doing so display the wisdom from above.

Wisdom from Above
13 Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. 14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. 15 This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. 17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. 18 And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
