Verse of the Day 5/8
Hebrews 2:17-18 This is why he had to be a Man and take hold of our humanity in every way. He made us his brothers and sisters and became our merciful and faithful King-Priest[a] before God; as the One who removed our sins to make us one with him. 18 He suffered and endured every test and temptation, so that he can help us every time we pass through the ordeals of life. The Passion Translation (TPT)
Today's verses are a reminder of what Jesus went through on our behalf. He was beaten, ridiculed, spit on, mocked and ultimately hung on a cross unjustly. He faced the temptations of the devil himself and overcame them by the Word of God (Matthew 4). He suffered all these tests so that He might better help us, knowing the difficulties and "ordeals" that we face.
God has given us His Word to help us deal with the ordeals of life. We can see not only how Jesus responded to the ordeals of life but also David, Paul and countless others. These words have been preserved for us. We should read them and know them so that they can impart "words of life and words of hope" for the ordeals of life.
My wife Jean and I are going through one of those "ordeals" right now. She shared the following with me last night
Holy words long preserved
for our walk in this world,
They resound with God's own heart
Oh, let the Ancient words impart.
Words of Life, words of Hope
Give us strength, help us cope
In this world, where e'er we roam
Ancient words will guide us Home.
Ancient words ever true
Changing me, and changing you.
We have come with open hearts
Oh let the ancient words impart.
Holy words of our Faith
Handed down to this age.
Came to us through sacrifice
Oh heed the faithful words of Christ.
Holy words long preserved
For our walk in this world.
They resound with God's own heart
Oh let the ancient words impart.
If you are going through an "ordeal" turn to Jesus, turn to God's Word for hope to help you cope.
Blessings,
Mike
Hebrews 2:14-18 New King James Version (NKJV)
14 Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. 16 For indeed He does not [a]give aid to angels, but He does [b]give aid to the seed of Abraham. 17 Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 For in that He Himself has suffered, being [c]tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.
