Verse of the Day 6/4

Verse of the Day 6/4

Isaiah 63:9 It troubled the Lord

to see them in trouble,
    and his angel saved them.
The Lord was truly merciful,
    so he rescued his people.
He took them in his arms
and carried them all those years.    Contemporary English Version (CEV)

Sometimes and especially in times of illness, trouble and unrest we may feel like we're all alone.  I read today's verses yesterday and had in mind all of the things going on right now in our nation and the world.  There are a lot of people who think that "if there is a God, He doesn't seem to care."  Today's verses relate back to the Exodus, a time of turmoil and fleeing from the pursuit of Pharaoh.  The verse tells us that the Lord was troubled to see them in trouble and that "his angel" saved them.

Many Bible scholars believe that this, and other passages in the Old Testament where the "angel of the Lord is mentioned that it is no other than the Lord Jesus Himself that felt their afflictions as if they were His own.  We can take it to heart, based on His sacrifice for us all, that He is truly merciful and will take us up in His arms, now and when we come to the end of our lives here on earth.

Wonderful merciful savior
Precious redeemer and friend
Who would have thought that a lamb could
Rescue the souls of man
Oh you rescue the souls of man.
Counselor comforter keeper
Spirit we long to embrace
You offer hope when our hearts have
Hopelessly lost our way
Oh we've hopelessly lost the way.
You are the one that we praise
You are the one we adore.
You give the healing and grace our
Hearts always hunger for
Oh our hearts always hunger for.
Oh mighty infinite father
Faithfully loving your own
Here in our weakness you find us
Falling before your throne                            (Wonderful, Merciful Savior - Songwriters: Dawn Rodgers / Eric Wyse}

If you find yourself with a troubled heart today, reach out to Him, fall down before Him,  He offers to rescue and save.  I'll close with a verse from Exodus 14, dealing with the Exodus from Egypt.

Exodus 14:13-14 New Century Version (NCV)

13 But Moses answered, "Don't be afraid! Stand still and you will see the Lord save you today. You will never see these Egyptians again after today. 14 You only need to remain calm; the Lord will fight for you."

Isaiah 63:7-14 English Standard Version (ESV)

The Lord's Mercy Remembered

I will recount the steadfast love of the Lord,
    the praises of the Lord,
according to all that the Lord has granted us,
    and the great goodness to the house of Israel
that he has granted them according to his compassion,
    according to the abundance of his steadfast love.
For he said, "Surely they are my people,
    children who will not deal falsely."
    And he became their Savior.
In all their affliction he was afflicted,[a]
    and the angel of his presence saved them;
in his love and in his pity he redeemed them;
    he lifted them up and carried them all the days of old.

10 But they rebelled
    and grieved his Holy Spirit;
therefore he turned to be their enemy,
    and himself fought against them.
11 Then he remembered the days of old,
    of Moses and his people.[b]
Where is he who brought them up out of the sea
    with the shepherds of his flock?
Where is he who put in the midst of them
    his Holy Spirit,
12 who caused his glorious arm
    to go at the right hand of Moses,
who divided the waters before them
    to make for himself an everlasting name,
13     who led them through the depths?
Like a horse in the desert,
    they did not stumble.
14 Like livestock that go down into the valley,
    the Spirit of the Lord gave them rest.
So you led your people,
    to make for yourself a glorious name.
