Verse of the Day 11/3

Verse of the Day 11/3

Colossians 3:1-2  You have been raised to life with Christ. Now set your heart on what is in heaven, where Christ rules at God's right side.[a] Think about what is up there, not about what is here on earth.  Contemporary English Version (CEV)

Today's presidential election will likely be first and foremost on many peoples minds today.  Many in our nation have put their hopes in one candidate or another and based on how close the polls are, no matter who wins, approximately half of the country will likely feel a let down or worse when the final count is in.  Setting our hopes and aspirations on a person is setting ourselves up for disappointment.  However, if we are Christians we have been raised to life, raised above the situation, because our hopes are not found in political candidates or party platforms, but they are found in Jesus, the Son of God who was raised from death to life that we might have hope in Him for eternal life.

Pastor and author David Jeremiah writes, "There are four powerful evidences of a centered life in Jesus Christ: You are gladly identified with Christ. You recognize Jesus as the authority in your life. You have a deep sense of spiritual and personal security. And you rest in Christ, knowing that He is the master of your destiny. In Christ you live a brand new life in a brand new way. When everything else is out of control, set your affections on the One who is in control. Everything you put your hope in other than Jesus will fail. Jesus Christ alone is faithful and changeless, and will never fail you!"

As you go through the day today remember these verses.  Go over them time and again in your minds, think about "what is up there, not what about what is here on earth".  Think about your future home.  Let your mind rest in other verses and passages that go along with the same train of thought.  Pull out an old hymnal (if you have one), or just think of some of the old hymns like the one below.

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly lean on Jesus' name

On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand

When darkness veils his lovely face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil

His oath, his covenant, his blood
Supports me in the 'whelming flood
When all around my soul gives way
He then is all my hope and stay

On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand

Colossians 3:1-4 English Standard Version (ESV)

Put On the New Self

If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your[a] life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
