Verse of the Day 5/1

Verse of the Day 5/1

Romans 14:8-9
New International Version

If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.

Our Monday Men's Bible study will be moving into Romans 14 this week and today's verses will be a major part of the discussion.  Reading these verses should bring the question to our minds, "am I living for Jesus?".  The verse indicates that we are to be living for the Lord for we belong to Him.

The verses bring a number of other verses and passages to mind, as well as some hymns.  Ephesians 2:8-10 tell us that we are saved by grace through faith to do the works that He has "prepared for in advance" for us to do.  Living for Jesus also means telling others about Him and what He has done for us.  The Great Commission in Matthew 28 tells us to "go and make disciples", teaching them to obey, to live for Him.

May we live for Him every day.

1. Living for Jesus, a life that is true,
Striving to please Him in all that I do;
Yielding allegiance, glad-hearted and free,
This is the pathway of blessing for me.

Refrain:
O Jesus, Lord and Savior, I give myself to Thee,
For Thou, in Thy atonement, didst give Thyself for me;
I own no other Master, my heart shall be Thy throne;
My life I give, henceforth to live, O Christ, for Thee alone.

2. Living for Jesus Who died in my place,
Bearing on Calv'ry my sin and disgrace;
Such love constrains me to answer His call,
Follow His leading and give Him my all.

Blessings,
Mike

Ephesians 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace.  NIV

Romans 14:5-12
New International Version

One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind. Whoever regards one day as special does so to the Lord. Whoever eats meat does so to the Lord, for they give thanks to God; and whoever abstains does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God. For none of us lives for ourselves alone, and none of us dies for ourselves alone. If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.

10 You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister[a]? Or why do you treat them with contempt? For we will all stand before God's judgment seat. 11 It is written:

"'As surely as I live,' says the Lord,
'every knee will bow before me;
    every tongue will acknowledge God.'

12 So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.
