Verse of the Day 12/13

Verse of the Day 12/13

1 Corinthians 1:8-9
Holman Christian Standard Bible

He will also strengthen you to the end, so that you will be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful; you were called by Him into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

If you read today's verses, many translations will use different words for the words "strengthen" in verse 8.  Some trranslations say "keep you" others say "sustain you" and all are correct, collectively they paint a better picture of the eternal security that we have in Christ Jesus.

The English Standard Version uses "sustain" in verse 8.  John Piper writes, "It is a great and wonderful truth of Scripture that God is faithful and will keep forever those whom he has called. Our confidence that we are eternally secure is a confidence that God will do whatever is necessary to "keep us trusting!"  The certainty of eternity is no greater than the certainty God will keep us trusting now. But that certainty is very great for all whom God has called."

I've been spending some time recently going through Hebrews chapter 11 where we find the "Hall of Faith".  As you read through the list of names from the Old Testament, you can look back and see how God had sustained, kept, and strengthened each of them in their lives, which gave testimnony of their faith beyond this world and looking for the next, their new homeland for eternity.

This world is not my home I'm just a-passin' through
My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue
The angels beckon me from heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore

Oh Lord, you know I have no friend like you
If heaven's not my home then Lord what will I do?
The angels beckon me from heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore

Blessings,
Mike

Thanksgiving

I always thank my God for you because of God's grace given to you in Christ Jesus, that by Him you were enriched in everything—in all speech and all knowledge. In this way, the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you, so that you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ. He will also strengthen you to the end, so that you will be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful; you were called by Him into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
