Verse of the Day 12/8

1 Peter 2:1-2

2 So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander. 2 Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation—

For today's verses we'll continue in 1 Peter where we've considered how we are to prepare ourselves for action which involves taking in God's Word, reading, studying, and praying over it and applying it in our lives.  While we are doing so, today's verses instruct us, "so"; or as a natural by-product of it, we are also to put away or do away with other things in our lives.  These especially have to do with our relationships to others.

We are to "put away all" - malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy and slander.  Wow, that's quite a list!  At the root of all of this is selfishness and pride.

The other thing that I'd like consider in reading these verses is the "grow up into salvation".  If we have children we expect them to grow, physically, mentally and spiritually.  Sometimes is seems like they grow up too fast, but at the same time we would never want our children to plateau at 3 or 7 or 15 or any age for that matter.  We want them to mature and becomes responsible adutls, growing God's kingdom.

Take a look at the list of things that we are to "put away".  How are we doing?  Are there still things that need attention?  God's Word will reveal it to us.  Spend time in it and continue to grow.
