Verse of the Day 3/4

Through the Bible - Numbers 35-36, Mark 11:1-14

Good morning,
Prov 18:14 The human spirit can endure a sick body,
but who can bear a crushed spirit?  NLT.
Our spirit's may be lifted by knowing a trusted friend.  From the Christian perspective, THE trusted Friend.  Winning a popularity contest will not necessarily bring you many friends at least not those that will pick you up when you're down.  When the tough times come the popular may find no true friend.  If we have the help of the Holy Spirit and friends to support us we can endure.

For today's verse we'll go to the end of Proverbs 18:
Prov 18:24 There are "friends" who destroy each other,
but a real friend sticks closer than a brother.   NLT

A real friend sticks closer than a brother.  When tough times come, He may lead you through the troubled waters, picture Psalm 23.  Or He may come running to meet you as the father in the parable of the prodigal son in Luke 15.

Jesus is a friend who sticks closer than a brother and leads those who follow Him when they need a friend most.  He is someone to follow, God wants you to follow, we need to follow.

The James Taylor song "You've Got a Friend" came to mind.  I won't post those words but will instead go to an old  hymn.

He Leadeth Me

He leadeth me, O blessed thought!
O words with heav'nly comfort fraught!
Whate'er I do, where'er I be
Still 'tis God's hand that leadeth me.
Refrain
He leadeth me, He leadeth me,
By His own hand He leadeth me;
His faithful follower I would be,
For by His hand He leadeth me.

Do you know someone who's "crushed in spirit"?  Show them that you're a friend, let them know that they also have a friend in Jesus.

Blessings,
Mike

Prov 18:14-19:1
14 The spirit of a man will sustain him in sickness,But who can bear a broken spirit?
15 The heart of the prudent acquires knowledge,And the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.
16 A man's gift makes room for him,And brings him before great men.
17 The first one to plead his cause seems right,Until his neighbor comes and examines him.
18 Casting lots causes contentions to cease,And keeps the mighty apart.
19 A brother offended is harder to win than a strong city,And contentions are like the bars of a castle.
20 A man's stomach shall be satisfied from the fruit of his mouth; From the produce of his lips he shall be filled.
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue,And those who love it will eat its fruit.
22 He who finds a wife finds a good thing,And obtains favor from the Lord.
23 The poor man uses entreaties,But the rich answers roughly.
24 A man who has friends must himself be friendly, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
NKJV
