Verse of the Day 1/3

Through the Bible - Genesis 7-9, Romans 3

Good morning,
In our Pastor Bob's message yesterday, he said that one of the reasons for the decline in many churches across America has been that they've been in a "maintenance" mode and had forgotten their mission.

Over the weekend I mentioned that you may "skim" through the Bible which will produce leaves, it is just scratching the surface.  More or less a maintenance mode.  A personal correlation between that and the maintenance mode in our personal lives would be coming the hair (for those of us with enough to comb).  You can do that every day and look good, at least presentable.  But if you don't supply the needed nourishment you will waste away from the inside.

Digging and searching - studying and applying have to do with being nourished prepared for and strengthened for the mission, whatever God's mission is for us.
For today's verse we'll go to Proverbs chapter 2.

Prov 2:4 if you seek it like  silver
and search for it as for  hidden treasures,
5 then  you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.
ESV
This year, in my devotions I will be reading the MacArthur Study Bible - English Standard Version (ESV).  You will probably see many references from the ESV and  to John Macarthur's notes.  Regarding this seeking and searching in these verses he states that this search is a "desiring search, the most intensive search of a lifetime."  May it be so with us this year and for the rest of our lives.

The search should lead you along and keep you on the right path, remaining true to your mission.

Prov 2:6 For  the Lord gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding;
7 he stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
he is  a shield to those who  walk in integrity,
8 guarding the paths of justice
and  watching over the way of his  saints.
9  Then you will understand  righteousness and justice
and equity, every good path;   ESV
In Christ,

Prov 2:1-13

The Value of Wisdom

2  My son,  if you receive my words
and treasure up my commandments with you,
2 making your ear attentive to wisdom
and inclining your heart to understanding;
3 yes, if you call out for insight
and raise your voice  for understanding,
4 if you seek it like  silver
and search for it as for  hidden treasures,
5 then  you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.
6 For  the Lord gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding;
7 he stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
he is  a shield to those who  walk in integrity,
8 guarding the paths of justice
and  watching over the way of his  saints.
9  Then you will understand  righteousness and justice
and equity, every good path;
10 for wisdom will come into your heart,
and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul;
11  discretion will  watch over you,
understanding will guard you,
12 delivering you from the way of evil,
from men of perverted speech,
