Through the Bible - Genesis 18-19, Romans 7
Good morning,
If you've been following along in Romans you recently would have read Romans 3:23 (New King James Version) for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
There are two all encompassing words here. The first is all, it includes everyone including you and me. The second word is sin. The word used for sin here literally means to miss the mark. It is all encompassing in that it includes sins of commission - where we willfully and knowingly cross the line and break the rules; and sins of omission - where we fail to do the things we know we should or have been prompted to do, choosing to sit idle or turn the other way.
When you think about it in those terms its not too hard to realize that have all sinned.
We have all heard "good news, bad news" scenarios used in jokes and in real life. For today's verse we'll skip ahead a few chapters to Romans 6 where we find the best bad news, good news scenario that we can imagine.
Romans 6:22-23 (English Standard Version) But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life. 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
The Bible is full of examples of personal redemption. Men have fallen in sin but received forgiveness from God through Christ. Those in the Old Testament looked for the One who was to come, we look to Christ, the One who came and will come again.
Eph 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace NIV
Marvelous grace of our loving Lord,
Grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt!
Yonder on Calvary's mount outpoured,
There where the blood of the Lamb was spilled.
Grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt!
Yonder on Calvary's mount outpoured,
There where the blood of the Lamb was spilled.
Refrain:
Grace, grace, God's grace,
Grace that will pardon and cleanse within;
Grace, grace, God's grace,
Grace that is greater than all our sin!
Grace, grace, God's grace,
Grace that will pardon and cleanse within;
Grace, grace, God's grace,
Grace that is greater than all our sin!
Are you thankful for this redemption, this forgiveness, God's grace? If so, live life according to the riches of God's grace.
Romans 6:20-23 (English Standard Version)
20 For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. 21 But what fruit were you getting at that time from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. 22But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life. 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
