Verse of the Day 6/9

Joshua 1:8(ESV) This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

I was recently watching a White Sox game where the announcers were talking about Paul Konerko who is having one of, if not his best season.  They talked about his approach to hitting and his mechanics.  They said that when he comes to the plate that he is concentrating on the pitcher and the ball.  He does not think about his mechanics when he comes to bat.  He works on his mechanics tirelessly in practice so that when game time rolls around he doesn't have to think about it.  He focuses on the pitcher and the ball, the mechanics, because of his practice, take care of themselves.

As I thought about their words I related it to the Christian walk, the Christian life.  If we were better grounded in the Bible and made the effort to live as an imitator of Christ, if we had his "approach", the mechanics would be there for "game time"

In regards to this verse John MacArthur writes, "That's a command to be doers of the Word - one who receives, studies, and understands scripture and then applies it to every aspect of his or her life.  That was the key to Joshua's amazing success."  Do you hope, desire to have Joshua's success? If so, study, meditate, and apply what you learn in your everyday life.  When the pressure situations come up, you won't be worried about mechanics, you'll draw upon His Word, it will come naturally.

James 1:22(NASB)  But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.

Read the rest of the passage in Joshua 1.  See what it says about "doing".

In Christ,
Mike

Joshua 1:6-9  (NASB)
6  Be strong and courageous, for you shall give this people possession of the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. 7 Only be strong and very courageous; be careful to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may have success wherever you go. 8  This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."
