2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. English Standard Version (ESV)
A large sporting goods chain recently opened in a local shopping center so I went in to see what they had to offer. I went to the hunting section to see that they had just about every conceivable article of clothing and gear down to the smallest gadgets. If you wanted to be thoroughly equipped (equipment wise) for hunting, this was the place to be. Here there are many different manufacturers vying for just about each choice.
Oh that we would desire to be so thoroughly equipped for service in our Christian life. In this day and age there are alll kinds of commentaries. books, studies, and DVD's to help us in our walk, but at the core we must have the Word of God in our hands, in our hearts, and in our minds.
Verse 16 uses four nouns to summarize the role and function of scripture as God's word. It teaches by telling us the truth about God and how He relates to His people; it reproves us by showing us where we are going wrong and enables us to "renew our minds" (Rom.12:2) to think as people of God. It corrects us by guiding us to think Biblically, enabling us to go down the "narrow way". It trains us in righteousness by revealing God's will to us and challenging us to follow it.
How equipped are you for the good work that He has prepared for you today?
Today's verse
In Christ,

2 Timothy 3:14-17 English Standard Version (ESV)
14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it 15 and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
