I had another verse planned for today, but the events of yesterday caused me to change course. My wife Jean lost a dear friend yesterday and this brought tears to my eyes as I considered the "keys in life".
The HCSB states that we must be serious. Other translations use "sober". Both are fitting. Being sober involves thinking clearly, not being overtaken or being overcome by outside influences that can bring us, bring our lives down.
Be serious. You've probably heard some one say "seriously?" when questioning someones actions that don't line up with what they believe or profess. It is saying, you're not actually thinking of doing that are you or you didn't really do that did you?
We must put on the full armor of God daily (Eph. 6:11-18). Today's verse points out that armor is built upon faith, hope and love.
May we face the day seriously, soberly and let the peace of God rule in our hearts even in trying, or should I say, especially in challenging times.
, 1 Thessalonians 5:4-5 But you, brothersare not in the dark, for this day to overtake you like a thief. 5 For you are all sons of light and sons of the day. (HCSB)... 11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up as you are already doing.
Blessings,
Mike

1 Thessalonians 5:4-11 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
4 But you, brothers, are not in the dark, for this day to overtake you like a thief. 5 For you are all sons of light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or the darkness. 6 So then, we must not sleep, like the rest, but we must stay awake and be serious. 7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night. 8 But since we belong to the day, we must be serious and put the armor of faith and love on our chests, and put on a helmet of the hope of salvation. 9 For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him. 11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up as you are already doing.
