Verse of the Day 3/2

 

Hebrews 10:23   Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.   English Standard Version (ESV)

 

There are many promises from God in the Bible, promises that He will be with us, never leave us, He is preparing a place for us and many more.  Sometimes the circumstances in our lives may cause us to waver in our confidence.  Today's verse challenges us to hold on.  The Amplified Bible translation for this verse does exactly that, it amplifies the message:

 

Hebrews 10:23  So let us seize and hold fast and retain without wavering the ^[a]hope we cherish and confess and our acknowledgement of it, for He Who promised is reliable (sure) and faithful to His word.  Amplified Bible (AMP)

 

Think of those "action" words, seize, hold fast, and retain - without wavering.  We can do so because He is reliable, sure, and faithful to His word.

 

We can look back in our lives and see answered promises, these should give us confidence.  John Piper encourages us to build upon this as he writes, "Be constantly adding to your arsenal of promises.  But never lose sight of the chosen few that God has blessed in your life.  Be ever-ready with the old.  And every morning look for a new one to take with you through the day." 

 

In doing so you'll be better prepared to face the challenges of the day, "Standing on the Promises".

 

	Standing on the promises that cannot fail,   	when the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,   	by the living Word of God I shall prevail,   	standing on the promises of God.   	(Refrain)          Standing, standing,   	standing on the promises of Christ my Savior;   	standing, standing,   	I'm standing on the promises of God.     	Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,   	bound to him eternally by love's strong cord,   	overcoming daily with the Spirit's sword,   	standing on the promises of God. 

 

So let's do it (v.23 The Message).

^22-25 So let's do it—full of belief, confident that we're presentable inside and out. Let's keep a firm grip on the promises that keep us going. He always keeps his word. Let's see how inventive we can be in encouraging love and helping out, not avoiding worshiping together as some do but spurring each other on, especially as we see the big Day approaching.
