Verse of the Day 4/9
Deuteronomy 10:20-21 Fear the Lord your God and serve him. Hold fast to him and take your oaths in his name. 21 He is the one you praise; he is your God, who performed for you those great and awesome wonders you saw with your own eyes. New International Version (NIV)
Today's verses from the Old Testament book of Deuteronomy apply to God followers, Christ followers today as much as they did then. We are called to fear, revere Him, hold fast or cling to or "stick to" Him and praise Him with our lives. It has to do with moving forward, walking in His ways while being able to look back at what He has done giving us confidence in what He will do in our future.
Derek Thomas in "How the Gospel Brings us All the Way Home" writes, " every believer lives in a tension between what he is and what he will be, between the now and the not yet. And God the Holy Spirit is intimately involved in each stage:" It is a reminder of what the psalmist wrote in Psalm 84:5 when he said "blessed are those whose heart is set on pilgrimage. We know that we haven't "arrived" at who we will be here on earth, let alone eternity. But we take those pilgrim steps between who we are and who we will be "sticking to" Him, trusting Him each step of the way.
What steps will we take in faith today that will bring us closer to what we will be?

The Message (MSG)
19-21 You must treat foreigners with the same loving care—
remember, you were once foreigners in Egypt.
Reverently respect God, your God, serve him, hold tight to him,
back up your promises with the authority of his name.
He's your praise! He's your God!
He did all these tremendous, these staggering things
that you saw with your own eyes.
remember, you were once foreigners in Egypt.
Reverently respect God, your God, serve him, hold tight to him,
back up your promises with the authority of his name.
He's your praise! He's your God!
He did all these tremendous, these staggering things
that you saw with your own eyes.
