Verse of the Day 2/14

Ephesians 3:17-18 (I pray)that the Messiah may dwell in your hearts through faith. I pray that you, being rooted and firmly established in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the length and width, height and depth of God's love,  Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

Happy Valentine's Day!  Today is a day when people all over the world will be expressing how deep their love is for one another.  But no matter how deep anyone may think it is, no matter how eloquently or passionately it is expressed it cannot match or live up to the reality of Christ's love for us.

At some point you may have asked a child or been asked by a child "how much do you love me?"  The answer is given not in words but in the action of spreading our arms and hands as wide as we can and saying this much.  When we consider God's love we can also picture Jesus doing the same thing, only when He does it, it reveals the nail scarred hands that truly reveal how much He does love us.  He loves us from nail scarred hand to nail scarred hand.

On this Valentine's Day may we remind someone that we love, how deep and how wide and how high God's love is for us in the form of the only begotten Son.

I'll close with another verse that is probably more often quoted on this day.  May our love patiently accept all things from Christ and learn to always trust, always hope, and always endure.

1 Corinthians 13:7Love patiently accepts all things. It always trusts, always hopes, and always endures.  New Century Version (NCV)

In Christ,
Mike

Ephesians 3:14-19The Message (MSG)

14-19 My response is to get down on my knees before the Father, this magnificent Father who parcels out all heaven and earth. I ask him to strengthen you by his Spirit—not a brute strength but a glorious inner strength—that Christ will live in you as you open the door and invite him in. And I ask him that with both feet planted firmly on love, you'll be able to take in with all followers of Jesus the extravagant dimensions of Christ's love. Reach out and experience the breadth! Test its length! Plumb the depths! Rise to the heights! Live full lives, full in the fullness of God.
