1 John 1:2-3 the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us— 3 that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. English Standard Version (ESV)
Today's verse from Johns first letter refers back to Jesus who was "from the beginning", who became man, lived among men and spoke the words of eternal life with John and the other disciples testify that He was real. They saw, heard, touched and were touched by Him. He was and is the "real deal".
Edward Schillebeeckx in "Revelation and Theology" writes, "It was in human history that God brought about what He planned to do in his concern for man and his salvation, and He did this in such a way that His action to save man became visible in a veiled manner in history as an act of God. This saving activity itself was revelation – it was revealed by becoming history, and it became history by being revealed. …. The entire salvation history of the Old Testament was directed towards this final stage of revelation, and the first word of revelation can only be fully understood when it is considered in the perspective of this definitive revelation in Christ."
Jesus Christ came into the world fulfilling Old Testament prophecies, He was revealed to men by God and His Word has been passed down to us through His written word the Bible, where He continues to reveal Himself to man, to us today through His Holy Spirit who He has given to us.
He is before the beginning, He is after the end, and He is above all things, yet He came to earth to dwell among men to seek and save that which was lost and to reconcile us to God. He is – "King of Kings and Lord of Lords, Father, Son, Holy Spirit, the Prince of Peace, the Son of Man, the Lamb of God, the Great I Am, He's the Alpha and Omega, He is Jesus Christ the Lord, and when time is no more – He is." (From "He Is" – Aaron Jeoffrey. )

1 John 1:1-4The Message (MSG)
1 1-2 From the very first day, we were there, taking it all in—we heard it with our own ears, saw it with our own eyes, verified it with our own hands. The Word of Life appeared right before our eyes; we saw it happen! And now we're telling you in most sober prose that what we witnessed was, incredibly, this: The infinite Life of God himself took shape before us.
3-4 We saw it, we heard it, and now we're telling you so you can experience it along with us, this experience of communion with the Father and his Son, Jesus Christ. Our motive for writing is simply this: We want you to enjoy this, too. Your joy will double our joy!
