2 Timothy 2:8 Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, the offspring of David, as preached in my gospel, English Standard Version (ESV)
Today's verse will be another one that brings us back to the celebration of Easter, and Jesus' resurrection. The call here is to remember it and what it stands for. The Message (below) challenges us to "fix this picture firmly in your mind" that not only did Jesus rise from the dead but He is also the fulfillment of so many other Old Testament prophecies including the fact that He came through the line of David.
In a sermon on this passage, John Piper said that every Jewish person would have known what this statement meant. "That Jesus is the Messiah (John 7:42) and that meant that this resurrection was not a random resurrection, but the resurrection of an everlasting king. Listen to the words of the angel to Mary, the mother of Jesus:"
31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end."

Luke 1:31-33 English Standard Version (ESV)
If we are Christians, Christ followers, we believe in Jesus birth, we believe in His resurrection and everything in the Bible that is in between. We should remember this every day of our lives and our lives should be impacted by that and reflect that. It is a message that we hear from Paul frequently in his writings no matter where he was writing from, in this case from prison for holding onto and proclaiming his beliefs, his faith.
Let's "fix this picture" from these verses in our minds today and every day.
2 Timothy 2:8The Message (MSG)
8-13 Fix this picture firmly in your mind: Jesus, descended from the line of David, raised from the dead. It's what you've heard from me all along. It's what I'm sitting in jail for right now—but God's Word isn't in jail! That's why I stick it out here—so that everyone God calls will get in on the salvation of Christ in all its glory. This is a sure thing:
If we die with him, we'll live with him;
If we stick it out with him, we'll rule with him;
If we turn our backs on him, he'll turn his back on us;
If we give up on him, he does not give up—
for there's no way he can be false to himself.
If we stick it out with him, we'll rule with him;
If we turn our backs on him, he'll turn his back on us;
If we give up on him, he does not give up—
for there's no way he can be false to himself.
