Psalm 55:17-18 Evening and morning and at noon
I utter my complaint and moan,
and he hears my voice.
18 He redeems my soul in safety
from the battle that I wage,
for many are arrayed against me. English Standard Version (ESV)

I read today's verse in my daily reading in the Psalms. The passage is probably better known or remembered for verse 22 which states, "cast your burden on the Lord; and He will sustain you". Today's verses should serve as a reminder that the casting of those cares should not be a once a day thing. How often do we go through a day without praying, choosing rather to carry those burdens on our own only to bring them to the Lord as a last resort or perhaps as we drift off to sleep at night?
It just so happened that I also read a devotional this morning by John Eldredge in which he shared how he had struggled with telling people "I'll pray for you", because although he had the best intentions the busyness of the day and all its distractions all too often would allow him to forget to fulfill that promise. In that devotional he wrote, " Now is the time to pray, for now is all we really have." Followed by this prayer:
"Jesus, come into this — we invite You into this" is a great place to start. Whatever the need — guidance, direction, encouragement, healing, protection; the cancelled flight, the report from the doctor, the tension in relationship — this is the place to start. Invite Jesus right into the heart of it all, right there, in the moment. "Jesus, come into this — we invite You into this."
After reading this and going back to today's passage the thought is not three times a day, but any time of the day be ready and willing to pray. It may require that you stop what you're doing, right in your tracks to pray for the current situation or perhaps that person that to whom you were ready to say "I'll pray for you".
Cast your cares upon Him, now, for now is all we really have. It is all that we can be sure that we won't forget about or neglect to do. Go ahead, "Pile your troubles on God's shoulders—
he'll carry your load, he'll help you out" The Message, for "he hears, he rescues. (v.17)

Psalm 55:16-23The Message (MSG)
16-19 I call to God;
God will help me.
At dusk, dawn, and noon I sigh
deep sighs—he hears, he rescues.
My life is well and whole, secure
in the middle of danger
Even while thousands
are lined up against me.
God hears it all, and from his judge's bench
puts them in their place.
But, set in their ways, they won't change;
they pay him no mind.
God will help me.
At dusk, dawn, and noon I sigh
deep sighs—he hears, he rescues.
My life is well and whole, secure
in the middle of danger
Even while thousands
are lined up against me.
God hears it all, and from his judge's bench
puts them in their place.
But, set in their ways, they won't change;
they pay him no mind.
20-21 And this, my best friend, betrayed his best friends;
his life betrayed his word.
All my life I've been charmed by his speech,
never dreaming he'd turn on me.
His words, which were music to my ears,
turned to daggers in my heart.
his life betrayed his word.
All my life I've been charmed by his speech,
never dreaming he'd turn on me.
His words, which were music to my ears,
turned to daggers in my heart.
22-23 Pile your troubles on God's shoulders—
he'll carry your load, he'll help you out.
He'll never let good people
topple into ruin.
he'll carry your load, he'll help you out.
He'll never let good people
topple into ruin.
