Matthew 19:14 But Jesus said, "Let the children come to me. Don't stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children." New Living Translation (NLT)
A couple of week's ago, my wife Jean and I had the privilege of taking care of your two youngest grandchildren, Ava and Jack while their parents went on a trip. One evening we went by a neighbors house and we enjoyed swimming in the pool and just "hanging out", part of which was having the grandchildren hanging all over us (especially Jean). I have a picture taken of Jean from that evening that made me think of this verse as soon as it was taken. I don't often do this, but I thought I'd share the photo.
The kids snuggled next to her in a chair that was intended for one person. But she made room and the joy in her face of having her grandkids in her arms made me think of this verse. To me, it was a picture of how Jesus feels when He receives one of His own into His arms. It doesn't matter if they are the faithful, obedient child or perhaps the prodigal child who has returned home, He welcomes them into His arms.
It doesn't matter if the person is a small child, an adult, or someone in their later years or even last days, if they will come to Him, He will gladly receive them into His everlasting arms with joy and a smile on His face, and His children will feel right at home with Him.
1. What a fellowship, what a joy divine,
leaning on the everlasting arms;
what a blessedness, what a peace is mine,
leaning on the everlasting arms.
Refrain:
Leaning, leaning,
safe and secure from all alarms;
leaning, leaning,
leaning on the everlasting arms.
leaning on the everlasting arms;
what a blessedness, what a peace is mine,
leaning on the everlasting arms.
Refrain:
Leaning, leaning,
safe and secure from all alarms;
leaning, leaning,
leaning on the everlasting arms.
No matter where we are in life, let us come to Him, and lean on those everlasting arm. He won't turn us away.
Blessings,
Mike
Matthew 19:14-15The Message (MSG)
To Enter God's Kingdom
13-15 One day children were brought to Jesus in the hope that he would lay hands on them and pray over them. The disciples shooed them off. But Jesus intervened: "Let the children alone, don't prevent them from coming to me. God's kingdom is made up of people like these." After laying hands on them, he left.
