Verse of the Day 9/11
Hebrews 10:23-24 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, English Standard Version (ESV)
I'm sure that we can all remember where we were 15 years ago today when we heard news of the first plane crashing into first of the twin towers. In and through the events of those first days and weeks after the event there was a drawing together of people to see each other through. People from different faiths, cultural and racial backgrounds helped each other through.
Many seminaries over the years have taught young pastors and preachers the effectiveness of developing 3 point sermons. You could easily develop a 3 point sermon from this passage that would apply to a congregation that is going through a difficult time, but should also be the common theme for worshippers as they gather together. Starting in verse 22 we have "let us draw near; followed by "let us hold fast"; and completed by "let us consider how to stir up one another".
We are to draw near to God as a body of believers, in full assurance of faith, seeking Him in worship, the Word, and prayer. We should "hold fast", hold onto what we have been taught and apply it in our lives. Persevering through the challenges because we believe that God will never fail us. We should "consider how to stir up one another to love and good deeds". We are to show concern for one another and think of ways to encourage and strengthen each other in our daily lives, and especially through the storms and trials.

Hebrews 10:19-25The Message (MSG)
Don't Throw It All Away
19-21 So, friends, we can now—without hesitation—walk right up to God, into "the Holy Place." Jesus has cleared the way by the blood of his sacrifice, acting as our priest before God. The "curtain" into God's presence is his body.
22-25 So let's do it—full of belief, confident that we're presentable inside and out. Let's keep a firm grip on the promises that keep us going. He always keeps his word. Let's see how inventive we can be in encouraging love and helping out, not avoiding worshiping together as some do but spurring each other on, especially as we see the big Day approaching.
