Verse of the Day 5/30
Psalm 103:17-18 But from eternity to eternity
the Lord's faithful love is toward those who fear Him,
and His righteousness toward the grandchildren
18 of those who keep His covenant,
who remember to observe His precepts. Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
Yesterday we celebrated the Memorial Day holiday, a day set aside to remember those soldiers who served and fought for our country, gave their lives to give us the freedoms, the life that we have today. They fought for their country, their communities and their families, but it wasn't solely for those of that time, it was "toward" future generations.
I like the way the Holman Christian Bible translates the beginning of the verse as "the Lord's faithful love is towards", it is focused on us. As Christians we should remember each day what God has done through us through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. He has given us life, not just for today but for eternity and He has done it for all the future generations that will call on Him and believe in Him. It doesn't end there. Today's verse reminds us that if we are believers we will "remember" to do what He has called us to do.
As we head back to the shortened work week this week, let us remember His steadfast love for us, and show our love for Him and "toward" future generations.
God's love, though, is ever and always,
eternally present to all who fear him,
Making everything right for them and their children
as they follow his Covenant ways
and remember to do whatever he said. Psalm 103:17-18 The Message

Psalm 103:6-18The Message (MSG)
6-18 God makes everything come out right;
he puts victims back on their feet.
He showed Moses how he went about his work,
opened up his plans to all Israel.
God is sheer mercy and grace;
not easily angered, he's rich in love.
He doesn't endlessly nag and scold,
nor hold grudges forever.
He doesn't treat us as our sins deserve,
nor pay us back in full for our wrongs.
As high as heaven is over the earth,
so strong is his love to those who fear him.
And as far as sunrise is from sunset,
he has separated us from our sins.
As parents feel for their children,
God feels for those who fear him.
He knows us inside and out,
keeps in mind that we're made of mud.
Men and women don't live very long;
like wildflowers they spring up and blossom,
But a storm snuffs them out just as quickly,
leaving nothing to show they were here.
God's love, though, is ever and always,
eternally present to all who fear him,
Making everything right for them and their children
as they follow his Covenant ways
and remember to do whatever he said.
